Neil Woodhams

Board Member

Neil has had an extensive career in senior healthcare at a governance and senior management level in both the public and private sectors. He is a former senior executive of the Midland RHA and was Chief Operating Officer of Auckland DHB. He established three Maori providers in South Auckland, the first PHO in New Zealand Te Kupenga O Hoturoa which he then managed for eight years. During that time he took a lead role on behalf of Maori providers in negotiations with Government on matters of primary healthcare funding and policy. Neil joined The Fono as a Board Member in 2012, and has particular expertise in strategic and operational management, strategic planning, project management, business recovery, the Treaty of Waitangi and policy development. He is an independent health management consultant and has held many positions including a Papakura Marae executive committee member, consulted to a number of DHB’s and other organisations on health related issues. Neil is also heavily involved with multiple sclerosis organisations, with roles including vice-president of Multiple Sclerosis New Zealand, president of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Auckland and a trustee of the recently formed NZ Multiple Sclerosis research trust. Neil has recently been appointed to the Pharmac Consumer Advisory Panel.
