Mental Health

We provide recovery orientated support and role modelling to individuals experiencing poor mental health, to ensure people struggling with mental health have safe and satisfying lives.

One of the biggest challenges for people experiencing mental illness is discrimination. People are discriminated against every day because of prejudice and stereotypes about mental illness. How you treat people with mental illness has a big impact on their well-being

So, how can you make a difference?

  • Be informed - Myths and inaccurate beliefs lead to discrimination
  • Be fair - Treat people equally. People want to be accepted and included without giving up who they are
  • Be kind - When someone seems upset, ask if they need help

Mental Health Services at The Fono

The Fono provides recovery orientated support and role modelling to individuals experiencing poor mental health.

Our Community Support Workers provide services that are tailored to the individual, allowing people to live in the community as independently as possible with appropriate supports (such as Whanau and Whanau Ora).
