Wear it Pink with The Fono

The Fono ‘Wear it Pink’ this October 20th for Breast Cancer Awareness Month to highlight and fundraise for the brave women who fight the disease every day.

The Fono staff will be wearing pink for Breast Cancer on October 20, our whole team will wear something pink in order to raise awareness and show solidarity with breast cancer patients and survivors.

It will also lead nicely into our 2KM walkathon the next morning which we hope you’ll join us for!

Although most women who develop breast cancer have no relatives with the disease, some women are at greater risk of breast cancer because there is a history of close family members having it.

We encourage you to wear pink this Friday October 20 and join us at The Fono Henderson on October 21, on Saturday morning, for a 2km walk at 7.30 AM followed by shared refreshments.

For more information about the walkathon call Elena Tauliani on 02102668485 or email her on elena.tauliani@thefono.org.

We advise all women to take advantage of our breast screening services and get your breasts checked.

What is breast screening?

  • Breast screening is when a mammogram (breast x-ray) is performed on women with no obvious breast changes
  • Breast screening can find cancer early and that means you have a better chance of beating it
  • It can pick up tiny cancers that can't be felt
  • You need to have breast screening every two years as breast cancers can grow in that time and you want to find them while they are still small
  • Screening mammograms cannot prevent development of breast cancer, but do reduce the chance of dying from breast cancer by approximately a third.
