Community services

A range of community services are offered by The Fono to encourage healthy lifestyles, through physical exercise / activities, good nutrition and social activities.

Screening programme support and services for breast and bowel screening is offered, as well as Rheumatic Fever awareness. In some situations The Fono provides transport to group activities or appointments, for those families who do not have their own way of getting there. 

Enua Ola education programmes
The Fono delivers education and awareness programmes on specialised topics to community groups via the Enua Ola network, in order to support communities to increase their understanding of issues relevant to them.

The Fono coordinates fitness, exercise and nutrition services for Pacific church and community groups in West Auckland. Services are free and open to anyone living in the Waitemata DHB area wanting to participate.

Healthy Babies Healthy Futures Programme
The Fono offers a FREE public health initiative to prevent maternal and child obesity by improving nutrition and physical activity. The goal is to promote health and wellbeing of pregnant women, women with children under 4yrs, and their whanau and communities through improved nutrition and increased levels of physical activity.

Nutrition Programme - Vegetable Garden Project
The Fono provides a service to help community groups to establish vegetable gardens in their own backyards or shared space, with the aim of increasing daily vegetable intake for members of these households.

Older Peoples Support Programmes
The Fono offers an activity programme for older people, taking into account a variety of preferred participation and support levels. Additionally, support is available for those members who speak English as a second language or who have limited communication abilities.
