Oceania Career Academy

The Fono has a strategic partnership with Oceania Career Academy (OCA). OCA is New Zealand’s first Pacific Trades Private Training Establishment (PTE) offering a range of NZQA accredited vocational training pathways.

Qualifications offered include engineering, building and construction, retail, hospitality and accommodation. OCA builds on the Trades at School brand, which has delivered pastoral care and mentoring elements of an industry-linked trades training programme to Pacific and Maori high school students since 2009.

OCA is working to achieve more young Pacific people in higher paid employment by delivering a student-focused, career-focused and industry-driven programme.

Using education as a vehicle, OCA develops youth through employment skills training, bridging students from secondary school into skilled industry employment and higher education.

OCA supports students through a pathway to employment, engaging families at the outset and navigating students through to skilled, secure employment within industry.

The Fono provides wrap-around health and social support services to OCA enrolled students and their families. Family-centred services delivered by The Fono include things such as health checks, housing support, parenting programmes, physical activity and nutrition, drug-testing, dental services, youth counselling and early childhood education.

The partnership completes the circle of Whanau Ora based services delivered by The Fono, which aim to build the capability and capacity of Pacific families.

The OCA training centre is based in Rennie Drive, Airport Oaks.
