Sexual Health and Contraception

The Fono provides family planning advice, contraception and sexual health checks. Sexual health screening is offered discretely and the testing and results are fully confidential between you and your GP. A number of screening tests involve the use of urine samples, swabs and a blood test.

The most common scenarios where people request a sexual health check are:

  • At the start of a new relationship, where both partners agree to be screened, especially if condoms will not be used on a regular basis later
  • After a relationship has ended, if there have been concerns that arose during or towards the end of the relationship
  • When there are specific health concerns or symptoms
  • In men these may include: pain or discomfort passing urine, urgency, frequency, a discharge from the urethra, a rash in the genital area, redness or itchiness, ulcers or blisters, or lumps, pain in the scrotum
  • In women these may include: pain during intercourse, a vaginal discharge, pain or discomfort passing urine, urgency, frequency, a rash in the genital area, redness or itchiness, ulcers or blisters
  • Your Fono GP will arrange the tests you need and deliver results to you by phone / email / or in person (you choose)
