“Ikai ha to’a ‘e tu’u tokotaha. No warrior stands alone,” says Kasalanaita (Naita) Puniani as she looks forward to taking on her new role as Manager Public Health Services at The Fono.
Naita goes on to say, “The Fono is a great platform for our community. A large organisation with real influence on how we as Pasifika people deliver care and support to our Pasifika families. I enjoy working with staff to enable them to empower our community to reach their aspirations, to build strength and resilience in our
families.” Naita brings to The Fono over 25 years of experience in education and public health. She started as a high school teacher before joining the Curriculum Development Unit with the Ministry of Education in Tonga where she was born and raised, before migrating to New Zealand in 1998.
Her career in New Zealand saw her enrich her passion for our people’s education and health with teaching roles at AUT, MIT and The University of Auckland, to management positions with Ta Pasefika PHO, Middlemore Hospital and Auckland Public Health Services. Her continual growth led to senior roles as Acting CEO and GM at South Seas Healthcare for 6 years and she joins The Fono after 5 years as Operations Manager at The Tongan Health Society. “I’m looking forward to building on the great work The Fono has done and help lift the standard of service even higher, as our people deserve it. When we set high standards, we help lift our community with us. I’m very much looking forward to meeting my new colleagues.”
CEO of The Fono, Tevita Funaki says that Naita will certainly add value to the senior
management team with her vast experience and high level of expertise. “We are excited to welcome Naita to further our vision of providing truly integrated care for those in our community that need it most.”
Kasalanaita Puniani’s qualifications includes a Bachelor of Science, Masters of Applied Science, Diploma in Teaching and a Certificate in Business. She will take up her role on the 22nd of February, 2021.
