Communications & Marketing Specialist

Working closely with the MCE Manager and Campaign & Content Creation Lead, you will help bring our stories to life across multiple channels while contributing to strategic planning and execution.

About The Role

This is a broad, creative role at the heart of how The Fono communicates with its people, communities, and stakeholders. You will lead and deliver internal and external communications that are engaging, culturally grounded, and aligned with our brand.

Working closely with the MCE Manager and Campaign & Content Creation Lead, you will help bring our stories to life across multiple channels while contributing to strategic planning and execution.

What you will be doing

Strategic Communications & Planning

  • Develop and deliver communications plans aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Lead internal communications to keep staff informed and connected.
  • Contribute to content planning and campaign delivery.
  • Monitor performance and use insights to improve engagement.

Media & External Profile

  • Build relationships with media and key stakeholders.
  • Draft media releases and manage enquiries.
  • Support reputation management and identify opportunities to elevate The Fono’s profile.

Content & Brand

  • Create and edit high-quality content across channels (web, newsletters, internal comms, executive messaging).
  • Maintain a consistent, authentic brand voice.
  • Ensure all communications are culturally appropriate and aligned with our values.

Annual Report

  • Lead content development and coordination of the annual report.
  • Translate complex information into clear, engaging storytelling.
  • Manage timelines, reviews, and final delivery.

About You

  • 5+ years’ experience in communications and/or marketing.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Relevant qualification in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or similar.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Digitally confident across CMS, email marketing, social media, and Microsoft 365.
  • A collaborative team player who builds strong relationships.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Pacific cultures and communities.
  • Experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of SEO and digital optimisation.
