A Year in Review: The Fono AGM 2024

The Fono AGM 2024
(L-R) The Fono Trust Chief Financial Officer - Jennifer Tupou, Chair - Nacanieli Yalimaiwai and Chief Executive Officer - Fiugalu Tevita Funaki MNZM.

We recently held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 6, 2024, at the Otahuhu Town Hall in South Auckland. This milestone gathering brought together our stakeholders to reflect on the past year's achievements and challenges.

Opening Karakia AGM 2024
Setting the tone for a meaningful gathering: Board member John Paterson opens the AGM with a karakia.

Notably, this was the first time our AGM has been hosted in South Auckland, following updates to our Trust Deed that were approved at a Special General Meeting late last year. These updates included expanding our Board to include members from across the wider Auckland region, ensuring more diverse representation and a stronger connection to the communities we serve.

New Board members
This year we welcomed two exceptional new board members: Dr Ainsleigh Laumatia and Dr 'Alo Siale Foliaki

As the largest Pacific community-owned provider of health, social and education services in New Zealand, our AGM is a vital platform for transparency, accountability, and community engagement. It allows us to share our progress, celebrate our successes, and address areas for improvement. The AGM also provides a chance for our stakeholders to ask questions, provide feedback, and contribute to our future direction.

Leadership
The Fono Trust: Jennifer Tupou (CFO), Nacanieli Yalimaiwai (Chair), and Fiugalu Tevita Funaki MNZM (CEO).

At this year's AGM, The Fono Trust Chair, Nacanieli Yalimaiwai, and CEO, Fiugalu Tevita Funaki MNZM, delivered key updates on The Fono’s progress. Nacanieli highlighted our commitment to Pacific peoples and communities, noting our ability to adapt to changing circumstances while staying true to our strategic direction. Tevita provided insights into our service development, staff training, and financial management, emphasising our continued delivery of value and upholding of our principles despite economic challenges. Additionally, our CFO, Jennifer Tupou, reported a strong financial performance for the year ended 30 June 2024, highlighting a robust financial position.

As we look to the future, we recognise that our success is ultimately driven by the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes. We're proud to have a team that's passionate about serving our communities, and we're grateful for their tireless efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of our people.
