Pacific Leadership Shines: Jennifer Tupou Wins National CFO Award
Jennifer Tupou's journey to winning the Finance Leader - Growth Entity Award began long before the numbers started adding up. It started with purpose - turning up to work every day for the families The Fono serves, who she describes as "the heartbeat of our organisation."
That purpose has driven remarkable results over the past four years. Under Jennifer's leadership as CFO, The Fono has achieved 20% income growth, 56% increase in capital investment, 41% improved cash flow, and 30% workforce expansion - all while navigating the challenging funding landscape facing organisations that serve high-need communities.
But Jennifer's approach has never been just about the figures. She's elevated finance from a back-office function to a strategic driver of organisational success, leading comprehensive digital transformation across The Fono's four healthcare facilities and modernising outdated systems that have revolutionised patient access and operational efficiency.
"This award is not just about finance," Jennifer said in her acceptance speech. "It's about using your skills to really empower people, to transform culture, and to create clarity that unlocks potential."
As one of only two women finalists in the finance category, Jennifer's recognition represents crucial progress for Pacific women in leadership. Speaking at the awards ceremony, she spoke passionately about the privilege of working for a Pacific-led charitable organisation and bringing that representation into professional spaces.
Jennifer's authentic leadership style shone through as she acknowledged the personal cost of making real impact - time away from her husband Kisione and their four children - while expressing gratitude for their unwavering support. She thanked her finance team, built from scratch, and the organisation's leadership for trusting her to step outside traditional finance boundaries.
In a moment of courage rarely seen in corporate settings, Jennifer concluded her speech with heartfelt thanks to God: "My last thank you, and the biggest thank you, is to God, because I would not be here tonight if it wasn't for him. For every step of my journey has been by faith and through God's grace."
