Lolohea On-Air

Lolohea in classroom
Dr Lolohea Tongi, Health & Wellbeing Programme Leader, Oceania Career Academy.

Lolohea Tongi was not made for radio.

She doesn’t work as a tutor because of how good her voice sounds on a microphone. She didn’t get a doctorate because of how charismatic she is on-air. And she definitely didn’t get hired by Oceania Career Academy because of her talent as a broadcaster.

It isn’t something she’s ever wanted to do.

But when she got the call to go in for a live interview with PMN Tonga (a move that would see her talking to over ten thousand listeners about OCA’s new Health and Wellbeing course) she still decided to say yes.

She said yes because of how much she cares about the community.

She said yes because of how many kids feel like they’ll never get a high-paying job.

She said yes because, if she said no, those kids would never enrol for her class and see how easy it is to provide for their families.

So, on the tenth of June, she put all of her radio jitters to the side. She walked into the broadcasting booth at PMN Tonga, sat in front of the on-air microphone, and talked about the one thing she was actually made for.

She talked about her students.

Yes, that’s right.

She talked about the new Health and Wellbeing course at OCA, but (more importantly) she talked about what it can do for her students.

Because even though they can study this subject at many institutions in the country, none of them will mould their teaching to suit the individual needs of their learners.

But Lolohea will.

Lolohea will learn what they need to pass her class.

She’ll take them under her wing and adapt the way she teaches to see them succeed, passing on her knowledge as a Health and Wellbeing professional in a way that actually works for them.

Whether it’s speaking their language, giving them more time to understand her lessons, or just being there for them when they’re feeling a little stuck, Lolohea will make sure that they graduate with the skills they need to provide for their family.

It’s a character trait that she shares with every tutor at OCA.

Otherwise, she never would have stepped out of her comfort zone to speak on the radio.

She never would have told our kids how to secure their future with this twenty-two-week course – a course that’ll teach them how to manage challenges, improve their wellbeing and work in a variety of health-related fields.

But she did.

And that’s the biggest reason to apply for her intake this July.

Not because Oceania Career Academy is offering a subject you can’t find anywhere else.

But because they have a teacher who will go above and beyond for her students – a teacher who will willingly put herself in a public situation that she calls “stressful” just to give them the chance at a better future.

Her name is Dr. Lolohea Tongi.

She teaches Health and Wellbeing at a tertiary level.

Though you might know her from the radio.
