Ross, one of OCA’s tutors discussed the idea with Fitz twosevenfive, a local barber, social media influencer, and the brainchild behind the twosevenfive movement. Fitz, who also sits on the Māngere town centre committee, eagerly supported the idea. OCA aimed to promote their carpentry course, and Fitz helped bring the idea to life. They decided on picnic tables to showcase the carpentry students' talents while positively impacting the neighbourhood. ‘We can achieve more if we work together,’ says Fitz.

Residents and local businesses love the new picnic tables. The town centre manager, Vicky Hau, notes that busy shoppers and visitors now use the tables to rest and chat. She also highlights that locals have praised the craftsmanship of the tables, which contribute to a more inviting, welcoming space. This project is a great example of the shared vision between Māngere town centre and OCA, reflecting the spirit of a thriving Pasifika community. The picnic tables have showcased the skills of OCA’s students, leading to an increase in enquiries and registrations. Fitz notes that you can also buy your own picnic table. ‘A lot of kids pull out of courses to support their families,’ he says. Money from sales helps cover students' expenses, keeping them in education. Check out the new picnic tables next time you’re in Māngere town centre.
