The Fono Trust gathered community members and stakeholders at Te Pai Centre in Waitākere on Friday, 5 December 2025, for its Annual General Meeting, reflecting on a year of consolidation and strategic progress.

Chair Nacanieli Yalimaiwai acknowledged the challenging environment of the past 12-18 months, noting the impact of economic pressures on the communities The Fono serves. Rising costs of living, housing shortages, and youth unemployment have created significant challenges for communities across Auckland.

The Board approached these difficulties as an opportunity for strategic renewal, undertaking a comprehensive reset process early in the year with input from health sector leaders. This work resulted in four clear strategic pillars to guide the organisation through 2025-2028, focusing on Pasifika-led wellbeing, workforce development, cultural grounding, and purposeful partnerships.

Our CEO, Fiugalu Tevita Funaki MNZM, presented highlights from what he characterised as a year focused on strengthening foundations and building sustainable systems. Key developments included the launch of the Mobile Dental Clinic in May, bringing dental care directly to Early Childhood Centres in South Auckland and removing access barriers for families.

The organisation made significant investments in staff development, with nearly all team members participating in training programmes designed to strengthen integrated, holistic care delivery. External recognition came through ProCare Awards acknowledging the medical team's population health achievements, and an award from the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) for transparent reporting.

Community engagement remained central to the work, with events including the Enua Ola Outrigger Health Challenge Awards and World Smokefree Day celebrations highlighting strong partnerships with churches and community groups.
