Over 80 years of clinic experience delivering quality services

The Fono is a result of affiliation agreements between The West Fono Health Trust and Pasifika Horizon Healthcare (2013) and The Peoples Centre Trust (2012). By pooling resources and combining organisations, Auckland communities have more readily accessible quality health services available.

West Fono – formed 1987

Initially starting as a small General Practitioners clinic in 1987, West Fono Health Trust was formed in 1990 to provide services that benefited Pacific and high needs populations. The organisation grew substantially, expanding services and improving the standard of health care delivered. In 2007 the trust was renamed from Pasifika Healthcare to West Fono Health Trust. This also coincided with a change in legal status to an Incorporated Society. The changes enabled the trust to deliver services more effectively and governance also improved, resulting in strong leadership and a galvanised effort to lead The Fono in to the future.

Manurewa Peoples Centre and St Patricks Medical and Dental Centre – formed early 1990’s

As a registered non-profit organisation, The Peoples Centre Trust had been assisting people in the Auckland region since the early 1990’s. A well-established community health organisation, The Peoples Centre offered GP, RN and Dental activities at its two practices; St Patricks Medical Centre in Wyndham St, City; and Manurewa Peoples Centre in Manurewa. Dental services were also offered at Ngati Whatua’s Otahuhu medical centre. With a focus on providing low income, high needs populations with quality, affordable healthcare, The Peoples Centre Trust became wholly owned and operated by The Fono in 2012.

Pasifika Horizon Healthcare – formed in 2006

Pasifika Horizon Healthcare was an Blockhouse Bay based practice offering primary healthcare health education and social services support to local communities as a limited liability company. In 2013 the organisation became a wholly owned subsidiary of The Fono.

Delivering quality, accessible health services into the future

The Fono is focused and committed to reducing the health inequalities of communities across Auckland, by finding innovative ways to deliver culturally appropriate services across four Auckland clinics and a Northland Pacific Whanau Ora Service. The Fono aims to be a leader in health for the people who need it the most, fostering well, safe, vibrant and informed communities.
